Public inspection of cadastral data in two municipalities
Within the framework of the PMAF project, cadastral data of about 30 villages and districts have been collected. For each village or neighbourhood, a 30-day public inspection period is organised so that the population can check whether the (presumed) property rights have been registered correctly.
The public inspections for the first 12 villages, 6 in N'Dali and 6 in Bohicon, have just been finalised. The more than 6000 plots cover an area of more than 15,000 hectares. The right holders are natural persons, legal entities, communities, municipalities and the State.
Most of the right holders are happy with the registration. They expect a reduction in land disputes and better protection of the rights of women and young people.
The public inspections took place under the responsibility of ANDF. This agency, through the PMAF, recruited service providers for data collection, advertisements and mediation in case of disputes. All these actors together strengthened the SVGFs so that they could manage the daily management of the public inspections. This was proven to be an effective approach.
The PMAF project has produced a video report of the public inspections in both municipalities: https://youtu.be/El2I5v-g_Ko
In November 2021 the public inspections of another 9 rural villages in N'Dali started and those of 10 urban areas in Bohicon will start in December 2021. At the same time a second round of data collection in 10 municipalities of Benin has started. This round covers rural and urban areas in the municipalities of Porto-Novo, Semi-Podji, Cotonou, Abomey-Calavi, Parakou, Djougou, Grand-Popo, Aplahoué, Sakété and Pobé.
